On behalf of Ibrahim Abu Atiya, the Chief Returning Officer (CRO), and Nadira Saleh, the Deputy Returning Officer (DRO), we would like to announce the beginning of the MSA elections period for the 2010-2011 term. As the Elections Committee, we are an independent body separate from current MSA Executives and Directors, and all questions and concerns regarding the elections process should be addressed to us ONLY.
The following email will contain many important pieces of information regarding the election process. During these next few weeks both: 1) nominations and elections for the Executive Positions and 2) nominations for Director Positions, will take place for the 2010-2011 academic year.
For this year's elections, NEW policies have been put in place by the Elections Committee to ensure that MSA elections run smoothly, fairly and transparently. The MSA will be holding a referndum to ammend constituon as well. More information will be provided in coming weeks. Questions regarding these policies are welcome via email at elections@macmsa.com.

=================================== 1. GENERAL GUIDELINES =============================================== a) To nominate an individual, you must be a paid and registered member of the MSA. This means that your name must be on the official MSA list, and it is YOUR responsibility to verify that this information is correct. Contact a current MSA exec member if you are not yet a member. Memberships subscribed after Friday March 5, 2010 at 4:00 pm CANNOT nominate, run or vote in the elections.
b) To run for a position, you must be i) a paid and registered member of the MSA, ii) a full-time student at McMaster in any faculty.
c) Throughout this process, the Elections Committee advises that members select only those people who they think will be able to successfully accomplish the mandated roles. For information on specific responsibilities for Executive Members and Directors, please visit http://www.macmsa.com
=============================================== 2. GENERAL TIMELINE =============================================== Friday March 5, 2010 4:00pm – MSA MEMBERSHIP PERIOD ENDS. NOMINATIONS FOR EXECUTIVE MEMBERS STARTS.
Sunday March 14, 2010 4:00pm – NOMINATIONS FOR EXECUTIVE MEMBERS END.
***Wednesday March 17, 2010 4:00pm – EXECUTIVE CANDIDATES IDENTIFIED. Deadline for acceptance of Executive position nominations.
***Friday March 19, 2010 – VOTING BEGINS, (Times & locations to be determined).
***Friday March 26, 2010 – VOTING ENDS, (Times & locations to be determined).
Monday March 29, 2010 – ELECTION RESULTS determined.
Thursday April 1, 2010 – NOMINATIONS FOR DIRECTOR POSITIONS END. New Executive body will contact all candidates and follow an internal application and interview process to select from the most qualified nominees.

Positions for Directors: Nomination Period: Friday March 5, 2010 – Thursday April 1, 2010 4:00pm

Director of Dawah and Outreach 8. Director of Brothers Social 9. Director of Sisters Social 10. Director of Ramadan and Iftar Services 11. Director of Publications 12. Director of Technology Services
In order to nominate members for Executive Positions or Directors, send an email to the CRO and DRO at: elections@macmsa.com. To be accepted, the Nomination Email must include:
i) the full name of the person(s) you are nominating ii) the position(s) that you are nominating the person(s) for iii) the email address of the person(s) iv) the telephone number of the person(s)
Members are allowed to nominate an unlimited number of individuals for positions, and can nominate more than one person per position. However, candidates will not be allowed to nominate themselves. If you feel you can contribute, you are encouraged to ask an MSA member to nominate you on his/her behalf.
People who are nominated for executive positions will be informed by Monday March 15, 2010 7:00pm. If a person is nominated for more than one Executive Position, she/he will be asked to select only TWO positions to run for. Those nominated for Director positions are able to accept any number of nominations, and will be informed during the summer period of the appointment made by the incoming Executive body.

ELECTIONS =============================================== All members will be informed of those people who have accepted their nominations by Thursday March 18, 2010 7:00pm via an MMN email. Members will be able to read information and answers provided by the candidates online at http://www.macmsa.com
Voting will take place from Friday March 19, 2010 to Friday March 26, 2010 (Times & locations to be determined).
The electoral process will function on a rating system to avoid the occurrence of a tie. If candidates are tied in the first ranking, the second ranking will be decisive, if the tie remains, the third, etc…All ballot totals and decisions will be final and as dictated by the CRO and DRO. In the unlikely case that one individual is ranked first for two Executive positions, a decision will have to be made by the elected candidate on the most favourable position, and the person next in rank will be awarded the declined position.
=============================================== 5. RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT =============================================== The final results for 2010-2011 Executive Positions will be emailed to the MSA body through the MMN by Monday March 29, 2010 7:00pm.
